The Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs Edgar Berlanga live streams on PPV on Prime Video from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 14. The pair squares off in the main event headlining the four-fight card with three titles contested on the night. The contest pits Mexico’s world champion against the unbeaten Puerto Rican contender of Brooklyn, NY.
The championship bout is scheduled for 12 rounds with Canelo’s (61-2-2, 39 KOs) unified WBC, WBO and WBA super middleweight belts on the line. Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) makes his first attempt to become champion. The IBF 168 lbs belt, previously held by former undisputed champion Alvarez, is now up for grabs on October 19 in Germany, where William Scull takes on Vladimir Shishkin.
In the 12-round co-feature, Erislandy Lara (30-3-3, 18 KOs) meets Danny “Swift” Garcia (37-3, 21 KOs). Cuban two-weight champion Lara defends his WBA middleweight title for the third time. Philadelphia’s two-division world champion Garcia makes his 160 lbs debut.
Among the Canelo vs Berlanga PPV undercard bouts, Nashville’s former champion Caleb Plant (22-2, 13 KOs) squares off against unbeaten contender Trevor McCumby (28-0, 21 KOs) of Yorkville, Illinois. The matchup is scheduled for 12 rounds with the interim WBA super middleweight title at stake.
Kicking off the action, former champion Rolando Romero (15-2, 13 KOs) goes through the ropes in front of his hometown crowd against Manuel Jaimes (16-1-1, 11 KOs) of San Jose, California. The bout is scheduled for 10 rounds at super lightweight.
Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) was the undisputed champion at 168 pounds before the IBF stripped him of the belt in July after Alvarez decided to face Berlanga instead of the organization's No. 1 mandatory challenger, William Scull.
The 34-year-old Alvarez has won titles in four divisions, and he's coming off a unanimous decision victory over Jaime Munguia in May. Since his loss to Dmitry Bivol in May 2022 challenging for a light heavyweight title, Alvarez has won four consecutive fights, all by unanimous decisions.
Boxing divisional rankings: Inoue solidifies spot at 122 pounds, Takei moves up at 118 1dMike Coppinger "This is a good fight for the fans," Alvarez said during an August news conference in New York to officially announce the fight. "I know he's going to come to bring everything, and I will too. It's the kind of fight I enjoy a lot. I can't wait."
Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs), ranked at No. 5 at super middleweight by ESPN, scored first-round KO wins in his first 16 professional fights. Since then, he has scored just one KO in the past six fights, a sixth-round TKO of Padraig McCrory in February. This is the first title fight for the 27-year-old Berlanga.
"Canelo is definitely going to bring the best out of me," Berlanga said. "Every time I step up, I step up my abilities. This fight is all about intelligence. We have to make sure we match him there. It's will versus will. We're not running. We're going to stay right there and we're going to do what we do."
